Healing with Saniderm
About Saniderm
Saniderm locks in the body’s natural moisture and healing enzymes, allowing the body to heal itself in the most efficient manner possible. After skin has been injured, healing elements are produced to help break down dead tissue and rebuild new tissue. Under normal circumstances, these healing elements dry up and evaporate which reduces their effectiveness. When this happens, longer healing times are required and scabbing and scarring may occur. Saniderm locks in these healing elements, and allows the skin to continue to function as normal because the bandage is permeable to oxygen and water vapor (breathable). In addition, Saniderm protects against dirt and germs while eliminating friction and other irritations that might further interfere with the healing process.
Can I Shower While Wearing It?
Saniderm stays on skin even when immersed in water… so you’re able to shower as normal. It is waterproof, however excessive exposure to water should be avoided because it could weaken the adhesion.
Can I Sunbathe With It On?
Saniderm does not contain any kind of sun protection, so you should avoid prolonged sun or UV ray exposure. We do not recommend exposing your new tattoo to UV rays, ever – with or without Saniderm. Even after your tattoo is fully healed, continue to use sun protection to maintain the integrity of your tattoo colors.
How Many Pieces Should I Use?
We recommend using two to three pieces per tattoo, in order to allow ample time for healing. You first piece may be used for 8-24 hours, and the next two pieces should be used 1-6 days each, depending on how much fluid the tattoo weeps.

Saniderm Instructions
-The first piece of Saniderm can be left on your new tattoo for 8 to 24 hours. If you notice excessive weeping or fluid under Saniderm, replace it with a new piece. At the 24-hour mark, remove the Saniderm, wash the tattoo, and reapply a 2nd piece. If the 2nd piece does not weep, you can leave this on for up to 6 days. If the tattoo does weep into the 2nd piece, remove it at the next 24-hour mark and reapply a 3rd piece to wear for 5 days.
-The best way to remove Saniderm is to find an edge of the bandage and then to pull it back over itself in the direction of hair growth. Pulling upward on the Saniderm can be painful, so we don’t recommend it. We suggest removing the Saniderm in a warm shower. The warmth will loosen the adhesive and make it easier to remove
-Do not use a washcloth, loofah, or sponge to clean your tattoo. These can be painful to clean a new tattoo with and may harbor bacteria.
-Do not hold your tattoo directly under the water. Wash it indirectly by splashing the water over the tattoo with your hands. If your new tattoo is covering a large area of skin, it may be easiest to wash the tattoo in the shower.
-Once you have thoroughly washed the tattoo, gently pat it dry with a little paper towel. Do not rub the tattoo, as this may cause irritation.
-Make sure that you properly apply the Saniderm bandage and leave at least 1 inch of buffer area around the tattoo.
-Rounding the corners before application will help reduce pulling or peeling of the adhesive edges.

Healing Traditionally
Caring for Your Ink
-Remove the covering after 30 minutes to an hour. All wounds need to breathe if they are to heal properly.
-Wash the tattoo using an unscented, mild antibacterial soap (such as Dial Gold Soap or Saniderm Foam Soap) and warm water. Take care to remove all traces of blood and plasma as this will cause scabbing. Use your hand to wash your new tattoo as scrubbing with a washcloth can be very harsh on
a tattoo and will cause your colors to fade.
-Pat it dry with a clean, soft cloth or paper towel or allow to air dry for about 20 minutes.
-Once dry, apply a very thin coat of aftercare product to the tattoo. There are multiple products on the market, such as Sanibalm or AfterInked. Only use enough to make it shine. Keep your tattoo moisturized!
-Do not re-bandage the tattoo.
-Repeat the cycle of washing, drying, and applying product to the tattoo about 3-4 times per day for the first 3 days (while the tattoo feels tender). Continue this process as needed (when the tattoo feels stiff or tight) for up to 14 days.

General Aftercare Information
Helpful Tips
-Aftercare Product can be applied whenever the tattoo is feeling stiff or dry but beware of over-moisturizing. Do not use lotions that contain color or fragrance at all until the healing is complete (usually anywhere from 10 days to 2 weeks; possibly longer for slower healers).
-It is perfectly normal to see small flakes of colored skin falling off during healing. Don’t panic as this is normal.
-You must keep your tattoo clean! However, long showers or baths must be avoided for 2 weeks. Avoid swimming in the ocean, lakes or pools, hot tubs, and saunas for the duration of the healing period.
-Refrain from scratching or picking at the tattoo. It is normal for the tattoo to become very itchy during the healing time. Keep in mind that disrupting the skin by scratching, rubbing, or picking at a tattoo could damage your tattoo.
Keep in Mind
-Remember, the sun is BAD news for your tattoo! Whether the tattoo is new or old, the sun can damage and fade your ink. Freshly tattooed skin is also more susceptible to sunburn. Sun exposure will also cause your tattoo to take much longer to heal completely. Never put sunblock, spray-tan, or tanning lotion on a tattoo that is still healing.
-A tattoo will take approximately 14 days to finish healing. Do not expose it to direct sunlight until it has completely healed. After that, we advise using a sun block (SPF 30+ or above) to help keep the tattoo from fading. This also applies to sunbed tanning.
-Do not shave, wax, or exfoliate the area until your tattoo has fully healed.
